Victor Osimhen has tested positive for coronavirus for a second time.  The Napoli and Super Eagles striker was first diagnosed with the disease upon his return to his club from holiday earlier in the month.  In a tweet by the Italian club yesterday, the club confirmed the 22-year-old striker returned another positive COVID-19 result and would undergo further tests in a few days. “The COVID-19 test taken by Victor #Osimhen this morning has come back positive. Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has reacted to a Muslim group's ultimatum for Catholic Bishop of Sokoto diocese, Mathew Kukah to leave Soko state.  Recall that the Muslim Solidarity Forum had condemned Bishop Kukah's Christmas day homily in which he said there might have been a coup if a non-northern Muslim did half of the things President Buhari has done. The group asked him to tender an unreserved apology or leave Sokoto state. However reacting to the quit notice delivered to the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Governor Ortom stated that Nigeria is controlled by forces bent on setting it ablaze.  The Benue state Governor added that both Christians and Muslims need to set aside religious and other sentiments to come together in humility to fast and pray for peace and unity of the country, rather than the current situation where some persons are ''fanning embers of disunity and hatred.'' A statement released by his Spokesman Terver Akase read;  GOV ORTOM

Appeal court dismisses lawsuit challenging Yahaya Bello's candidacy

A lawsuit challenging the emergence of Yahaya Bello as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2015 governorship election held in Kogi state, has been dismissed by an Appeal Court.  Justice Steven Adah who delievered the lead judgement on the lawsuit filed by Michael Elokun and two others who asked the court to declare that Governor Bello was not a qualified candidate having not been a registered voter in Kogi State, held that the nomination of candidates is the duty of political parties and not that of members of any constituency. The three man which maintained that the appellants never contested the governorship primaries and therefore lacked the locus to challenge the nomination of Mister Bello as the candidate of the APC, also affirmed the judgment of the Federal High Court delivered on March 20, 2018.The post Appeal court dismisses lawsuit challenging Yahaya Bello's candidacy appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog .

Soldier arrested for criticizing COAS Tukur Buratai has been granted bail after 7 months

Martins Idakpini, the lance corporal who was arrested and detained for criticising chief of army staff Tukur Buratai, has been granted bail after 7 months in detention.  The soldier was arrested and detained in Abuja after a video which was made in June 2020 went viral. In the video, he accused Buratai of poorly managing the fight against insurgency. read here Idakpini's lawyer, Tope Akinyode said a court martial sitting in Sokoto ordered his release on bail.  Akinyode said in a statement issued on Thursday January 14.  Read below.. “Court martial grants bail to Lance Corporal Martins Idakpini. The Daily Show host Trevor Noah has bought a mansion in Los Angeles, California. The 11,000-square-foot sprawling home is surrounded by lush greenery in the swanky Bel-Air neighborhood.   It has a pool on one of the upper decks, a media room, floor-to-ceiling windows, an office, a spa, and a library.   According to the Los Angeles Times, Noah bought the home, which has six bedrooms and 11 bathrooms, from architect Mark Rios. Rios is the owner of an LA-based design firm named after him. The listing was held by Linda May, Drew Fenton, and Jonah Wilson of luxury real-estate agency Hilton & Hyland.   But the large property may not be for Noah alone. Police reunite three 'abandoned' children with their family

Three children who were rescued in Damaturu, Yobe state capital have been reunited with their parents by the police.  Police spokesman in the state, ASP Dungus Abdulkarim explained that the children were allegedly abandoned by their parents in Mafa Local Government Council of Borno state late 2020.   Abdulkarim said the parents denounced the allegations saying they might have been abducted but later abandoned. After handing over the children, the Police warned the parents that the authorities will keep watch on how the children are being brought up. He said;  “These children were said to have been abandoned by their parents after giving them transport fare to an unknown destination.“The children were found by our personnel along Maiduguri road trekking for a long-distance."The post Police reunite three 'abandoned' children with their family appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog .

Saved by the Bell star, Dustin Diamond diagnosed with stage 4 cancer

Saved by the Bell star Dustin Diamond, who played Screech in the popular teen series, has been hospitalized with stage 4 cancer. A rep for the actor said that Diamond checked himself into a hospital this week after feeling unwell. The type of cancer the actor is battling has not been disclosed. According to Entertainment Weekly, Diamond is undergoing treatment at a Florida hospital. "He’s undergoing chemo so he will be there at least another week and then we will figure out when he gets to come home," his rep told EW, adding that the actor will release a statement once they know more. "By next week, we’ll have a much better understanding of the severity of his condition and what treatments he will need so that he’s comfortable." The rep said the actor had also been recently suffering from shingles, "so he’s been in a lot of pain." Diamond, who starred in the series Saved by the Bell from 1989 through 1993, reprised his role as Screech in the franchise’s tw

7 killed, several trapped in collapsed buildings and hundreds injured as earthquake rips through Indonesia

An earthquake on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi has killed at least seven people and injured hundreds on Friday morning, January 15.According to reports, more than a dozen patients and staff are reported to be trapped in the rubble of a hospital that was damaged in the quake. Authorities said four people died in Majene and more than 600 were injured, while another three people died in neighbouring Mamuju. Indonesia is prone to earthquakes because it lies on the so-called Ring of Fire - a line of frequent quakes and volcanic eruptions on the Pacific rim.   The earthquake which had magnitude of  6.2 came just hours after an earlier, smaller quake. The epicentre of Friday's earthquake was six kilometres (3.73 miles) northeast of Majene city and had a depth of 10 kilometres. Authorities have warned that strong aftershocks could follow the two main quakes and that they could still trigger a tsunami while thousands are reported to have left their homes, fleeing to safety.Properties da

A Kenyan pastor man who raped his two underage daughters and impregnated one of them has been jailed for 140 years.  Akorino ‘pastor’ John Gichini, 51, was sentenced by a Baricho court in Kirinyaga on Thursday after being convicted of the charges against him.  He admitted that between June 2019 and August 2020 he sexually abused his daughters aged 14 and 16 years, Nairobi News reports.  The prosecutor, Patricia Gikunju, told the court that the girls were abused and one of them gave birth to a baby girl who is now seven months old. During the sentencing, Senior Principal Magistrate Anthony Mwicigi said the pastor destroyed the lives of his daughters and that he deserves heavy punishment to serve as a lesson to other would-be offenders. The magistrate described the convict as a very bad person whose name should be entered into the register of the convicted and most dangerous sex offenders. “The accused abused his position as a father and ruined his daughters’ lives. Lagos state government on Wednesday, January 13, sealed the popular Eko club event center in Surulere for violation of COVID19 protocols. According to the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor of Lagos State on New Media, Gawat Jubril, the center was sealed for holding a packed funeral. US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wore same outfit she appeared in during President Trump’s first impeachment in 2019 for the second impeachment vote against the president on Wednesday January 13.  On Wednesday, Ms Pelosi appeared at the House impeachment vote wearing a black dress with three-quarter sleeves and a blue and black floral mask. She paired the outfit with a gold necklace. The sleek black business frock, which some likened to funeral garb, immediately caught the eye of Twitter denizens who realized the look matched Pelosi’s December 2019 impeachment outfit.    Not only did the dress match, Pelosi opted for the same gold necklace she paired the look with in 2019. It’s not clear if the shoes also matched.  As confirmed by her office in a statement to People, Ms Pelosi first wore the suit dress and necklace on 18 December 2019, when the House passed two articles of impeachment against the president for abuse of power and obstruction of justice.   The speaker’s brooch, which sent a
